Abstract
|
|
|
A new intravenous eugenol derivative Epontol (Fabantol, Propanidid, FBA,1420) has been studied in 10 cases with premedication before operation, and normal 10 Gases without premedication or operation.
(1) The duration of narcotic action after premedication is longer than without premedication.
(2) Hypotensive phenomena with hyperpnea followed by respiratory depression was found in 20% of out series.
(3) The automatic increase of tidal volume, frequency and minute volume shown the spirometric tracings did not need oxygen suppliment.
(4) Temporary sinus tachycardia has obserbed in the phase of hyperpnea.
(5) Anesthesia was adequate for operation, and complications rarely occurred except involuntary muscle movement, coughing and vertigo which appeared after rapid recovery.
The conclusion is that Epontol is a safe short-acting intravenous anesthetic for minor operative procedures, and causes not only respiratory stimulation which is a central action of the drug itself but also a respiratory depressant.
